About Us
Every Piece is Made Only Once
At Takumi, every kimono hijab is one-of-a-kind. We make each one by hand using vintage Japanese silk, and because the fabric is limited, no two scarves are ever the same. The pattern, the colour, the feel — it belongs to one person only.
Real Vintage Silk, Not Reproductions
The silks we use come from real Japanese kimonos that were worn for weddings, ceremonies, and family occasions. We source them carefully, restore them where needed, and turn them into hijabs without losing what made them special.
Vintage silk has a softness new fabric cannot copy. It breathes well in warm weather, feels gentle on the skin, and drapes naturally without much effort.
Where Two Traditions Meet
Takumi was founded by our director, Amirul Hakim, on a simple observation: the kimono and the hijab come from very different cultures, but they share the same values — dignity, modesty, and respect for the work of the hand.
Our designs bring these two worlds together. Islamic geometric patterns sit alongside the natural, imperfect feel of Japanese wabi-sabi (侘寂), all on silk with real history behind it. We started with the kimono hijab, and over time will add more handmade pieces — home goods, accessories, and textiles — held to the same standard: made slowly, made well.
Why Choose a One-of-a-kind Hijab
- Comfortable in any climate — silk breathes in heat and holds warmth in cooler weather
- Improves with use — vintage silk softens over time instead of wearing out
- Patterns no one else has — each fabric is unique and cannot be reprinted
- Comes with a story — every piece includes details about the kimono it was made from
